Common fault
What is the loud humming or rattling from my refrigerator?
Short answer
A new noise is worth a call before it is worth a panic. The usual sources are the condenser fan, which rattles when debris reaches it or when its bearing wears, and the compressor mounts, which harden with age and transmit a hum into the cabinetry. The reason to deal with it early is simple: a fan left to seize stops the unit rejecting heat, and a cheap part turns into a warm refrigerator.
