Why does frost keep building up in my freezer?
Short answer
Clearing frost by hand treats the symptom and tells you nothing. If it comes back, the automatic defrost is not finishing its job: usually the heater has failed, the thermistor that triggers it has drifted out of range, or a tired door gasket is admitting humid air faster than the cycle can remove it. Ice on the coil acts as insulation, so performance drops a little further every week rather than failing outright.
